From its humble beginnings in 1887 as a one-room laboratory, the National Institutes of Health has grown into a multi-billion-dollar federal agency with 27 institutes and centers, each with their own portfolio of research focused on particular diseases or body systems. All but three receive their funding directly from Congress and administer their own budgets. NIH Institutes and Centers collaborate and work together on research initiatives because many health issues cut across multiple disease areas.

Through the Years
In late 2001, Elon Musk founded Space Exploration Technologies Corp. Enthralled with the tales woven by Adams, Asimov, and Tolkien, as a kid, the disappointment he experienced at discovering there were no active programs to go to space, ignited his goal to reach Mars. Reducing the costs associated with space travel was the first mission as the company evolved into SpaceX on March 14, 2002.

Built on the determination and might of the few, the road to meaningful and long-lasting change paves the way for the strides and successes of the oppressed many.
Conceived of love, friendship, compassion, and sense of community, three volunteers and several supervising mothers opened the doors of the YMCA to these first seven clients, paving the way for more schools to offer an environment where education of a specialized nature helps these exceptional individuals develop their strengths, and provides a sense of respect and dignity.
